Things are moving along for Laurent!

We got back from our trip to Washington, D.C. for The Laurent Institute (non-profit organization) advisory board meeting. The organization has been renamed to Laurent Community Development Corporation (LCDC). We have answered some additional questions from IRS regarding our application for 501c3 status. We expect to hear back from them soon!

The week at D.C. went very well for us. We had a series of meetings with various people, including the staff at National Association of the Deaf and a private businessman who may be an interested investor.

We returned home, and we were busy preparing for our next meeting with another investor. That meeting went very well. Some alternative financing methods were mentioned as some possibilities, and we are waiting for more information on this.

This week has been a quiet week for us because my wife underwent an non-emergency surgery, and she’s recovering very well. She’s home as of yesterday, and our family is very happy to have her back!

Land negotiations continue, and we are still focused on top 3 possible sites in McCook County. We hope to announce something soon within a few weeks.

79 families are on the reservation list now, and we’re looking to schedule two town hall meetings before the end of this year. If anyone wants to host one, please contact me!

Yup, I know we will build this town and many others. I know we will be able to bring much needed training and empowerment for many deaf, hard of hearing and hearing signers who wants to know how a city is run and how to operate them as well as having an opportunity to run a business of their own. Laurent, S.D. will bring us that opportunity. It’ll be a great ride for us all!
