Wishing you both the very best in the New Year!!!!

You have faced considerable hurdles as we all know but hang on the dream, Pray and listen to God’s Guidance and in the end something good will evolve from you passionate committment to building a Signing town. Assuredly it might not be what you want, planned for or expected but with every door that closes another opens. Focus on the door ahead of you and not the door that has closed behind you. Blessings to you both and do keep in touch me as I am still very interested in becoming involved when the timing feels right!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

    Hello,
I’m a french student and I want to present the concept of Laurent, the signing town, to my friends during the english lesson. I have some questions, can you respond me please ?
The building of the town was planned for september 2006 and it didn’t happen, why ? What kind of problems do you have ? and is the town really going to be built ?
My second question is about you. I read that you have 4 deaf children, so is the deaf hereditary ? And have you got a job in the mainstream society ?
How many schools for deaf people, like this created by Laurent Clerc, exist in United States ? And I haven’t really understood why you have chosen South Dakota to build this town.
    Thanks a lot.
I wish you a happy new year.

WOW!! Was led to the site from my ASL instructor. I have a huge interest and heart for the Deaf Community and am excited to become a part of the community. I look forward to watching this idea grow.

    God Bless you all!!

Hello, I’m a student from Southampton,New York. I would like to tell you that i find a entire deaf soceity facinating. It would be unique. I heard about this from my ASL teacher. No I’m not deaf but I still like the idea of having an entire town thats deaf. But I think that by having this, you will be seperating yourself from the rest of society.

Another way to look at this rather then the Deaf seperating themselves from society could be that they are letting society know that although they are Deaf they are still a strong force to recon with!! That they, like their hearing counterparts, have the ability to build their culture, have an active government and raise up a culture that should be proud. I think like with DPN it will force the nation to recognize the Deaf community as a functional force and possibly encourage more in society to learn about the Deaf and how they can become a part of their culture.

    Just a thought.

To all visitors to this website,

I want to take a moment to remind everyone that Laurent has never been planned or presented as a town for only deaf. IF you think about it, few families have only deaf members. Most have deaf, hearing and maybe even hard of hearing. Signing, is the common link we share.
If you are new to the site, please take the time to down load the PDF from the home page that tells about Laurent and the reasons behind our desire to build a town for Signers. It is the 3rd choice on the right hand side of the home page.

Thank you to all who continue to support us with your good wishes and prayers. We plan to update the site with information soon.

    Warm regards to all,
    M.E. Barwacz
