First Advisory Board Meeting a Success!

Six out of eight members of The Laurent Institute Advisory board gathered together for the weekend at beautiful Camp Lakodia in Madison, South Dakota last Friday through Sunday. On Friday, the group visited the first choice site of the future town of Laurent as well as nearby town of Salem, S.D. On Saturday all day, considerable time was spent on sharing the background and history of each individual member as well as the project of building Laurent. The advisory board is ready to develop a position paper on creating an independent public school district for the town of Laurent as well as determing the best possible educational approach that would serve all deaf, hard of hearing and hearing children. Next meeting will be scheduled sometime in October in Washington, D.C.

I’m really thrilled on how the weekend went for us all, and I truly look forward to working with the advisory board in providing the best possible guidance in the development of the town as well as providing essential, if not crucial, services to the signing community.
