Back from Milwaukee
Our road trip to Milwaukee and Wisconsin Dells, Wisconsin was very fruitful. We got to meet the wonderful team at Cardinal Capital Management. They, along with Southeast Wisconsin Deaf Senior Citizens organization, developed a beautiful, state of the art senior housing under tax credit (limited income). The housing is now full with a good number of deaf seniors on the waiting list.
We met with President Erich Schwenker, Judy Leiterman and deaf Housing Consultant Katie Voss as well as the housing manager Carol Comp all day including a tour of the building. We came away impressed with the passion the team has in serving the needs of deaf seniors.
We hope they would consider building one in Laurent some day!
After the meeting, we traveled back home and stopped at Wisconsin Dells for a night. The following morning we toured one of the largest indoor water park & hotel, Kalahari Resorts. Chief Financial Officer Mary Bonte Spath was kind enough to give us a guided tour as well as discuss their experience in running a large resort with indoor water park.
We want to build a fairly large indoor waterpark along with hotels as well as “condotels” — a concept that seems to sell very well as an investment property. After the tour, we drove through Wisconsin Dells.
We realized that when we speak of Laurent as a worldwide tourist destination, we certainly did not have places like Keystone, SD; Wall Drug or Wisconsin Dells in mind… Gaudy, noisy, dare I say - tasteless. Superficial.
Laurent will be a real town with a heart and soul of Deaf Culture and American Sign Language as well as English. We envision Laurent to be a upscale retail and entertainment destination as well as museums, library, high technology office, research and light manufacturing centers.
Tourism will not be the focus — rather, the quality of life, comfort and beauty will be the focus. People will come because of that.
