The most important reason to support any cause may be its worthiness. I never feel like what I am doing is a waste of time. And when I have moments like I just had an hour ago, I know I am on the right path. Let me tell you what happened.
A young couple from New Jersey stopped by the office this afternoon. They wanted to see for themselves if we are “for real”. Marvin Miller had a few minutes to visit with them and then I spent a little more time with them. One thing is for sure, if you take the time to come and see us, we will certainly do our best to give you what you came for and usually, that is answers. So after sharing information, the big question came, “How close are you to building it and how will you be able to keep it a signers town and not let the hearies take over?”
I am paraphrasing, but this is close.
Then I explained and as I neared the end of my little speech, I watched the young woman’s face change. I have watched it happen so many times and I know my own face changes with them. There is a wonderful glow that seems to wash away the doubt and the weariness of everyday. The chiseled look of concentration and searching melts away and a radiance, that “aha!” moment of understanding and hope and of feeling like one’s prayers have been answered, lets me know that one more person knows Laurent will be real.
Is building Laurent a worthy undertaking? Without a doubt, yes!
So please join us. Be a part of this great project. Not everyone will want to live in Laurent and not everyone will even get to visit the town, but everyone can be a part of making it happen.
Funds donated to the non-profit The Laurent Institute will be used now in 3 major ways:
• 10% will go directly into an Endowment Fund. It will first be collected into a savings account, and as it grows, it will be invested so that part of every gift will be there to support the new community of Laurent for years and years to come.
• Part of the funding will go to operating and land development expenses.
• Lastly, we will use the funds to support grant writing efforts. Many times grants require matching funds or a certain percentage to be raised by the group applying for the grant. The Laurent Institute will use some monies towards these efforts.
At the end of the year, we will have reports to show how your money was used. For now, we will work to list the donors and the totals collected. Please take a moment to think about donating. I know you will be glad you helped.

can u tell me what is laurent institute going to be? A KODA school with dorms?SAP

I can see where people can confuse the name of our non-profit organization, The Laurent Institute. In reality, TLI is a community development organization that is doing everything it can to build the town (and even schools, business development and so on).It is our goal for town of Laurent to have its own locally governed public school district serving both deaf and hearing students in ASL and English.
